One of the most pleasant things about the Nigerian music scene this year is how it seamlessly recycled itself and gave chance to a new set of artists to flourish. In the absence of constant music this year from many of the usual suspects when it comes to delivering hit tracks, many might have thought that the music scene would plummet into a lifeless state.
But that is far from the case as this year alone we’ve witnessed quite an impressive influx of new school artists smash through, grabbing this golden chance with both their hands. Pardon my use of the word “influx”, but I don’t think we’ve seen such multiple combinations of budding artists simultaneously flourish together at the rate we’ve seen them do this year. It’s an uncommon thing when around 5 artists have their come up season in the same calendar year, so influx seems like the right word.
It could be easily said that it has been undoubtedly Rema‘s year without it meaning that Joe boy himself has not had stellar success with the way he’s broken through. At the same time, YBNL’s crown jewel, Fireboy DML is also amassing quality recognition. He’s been doing big numbers with his smash hit singles. In fact, all these artists are doing impressively well.
Last but the least are the two sensational street kings, Zlatan, and Naira Marley. These two have taken the whole industry on a fun ride and they have the attention of practically all music lovers glued to their craft at the moment.
Surely, it’s been one of the best years for budding artists. And I dare to say not only do they keep supplying us with genuine hit songs but they also all singularly look like they will be here for a long time.
