Phenom is a talented rapper, hip hop artist and songwriter. Fondly known as the Knight House King, Phenom in January 2014 released his first album “B.R.A”. It consisted of 9 songs and it featured Wizkid and Phyno. He has also released a couple of singles like “Omo Naija”, “Shuku Bam Bam”, “The way”, “Murder dem” and others. Phenom also has a lot of amazing collaborations.
Young6ix took an interest in music at a very young age, and while in school, he engaged in rap battles. And with this, he made friends in school with like minds, which led to the formation of the hip hop music group G-Squad. He has released 3 albums namely; “6six o Clock”, “Billionaire Ambition”, “High star” and numerous singles like “Ferragamo”, “Blessing”, “Money is relevant” and more. He also bagged himself collaborations from top artists such as Yemi Alade, Wizkid, M.I and more, and has bagged himself an award. He promises more in his next coming projects.
18 Eva Alordiah
Since her breakout into the music industry, she has been tagged as one of the best female rappers in Nigeria. Eva has released numerous hit singles like “Shuga, Lights out, Relentless” and more. She has released 2 albums, titled “The Gigo EP” and “1960: The Album” which had hardcore rap and fire flows. Although she doesn’t make music that much anymore, she is still remembered for her amazing hits. She also has bagged herself a couple of awards and strong collaborations from fellow artists.
17 Lil Kesh
Lil Kesh since his breakout single “Shoki” has been one of those to promote and redefine street rap. He has also released a couple of murder tracks like “Lyrically”, “Efejoku”, “Gbese” “Cause Trouble” and more. The rapper’s album titled “Y.A.G.I” is a true redefinition of the street rap. He proved he was the leader of the new school rap with the album. Lil Kesh has also bagged himself some awards.
Since his debut, he has proven to be a phenomenal rapper. He has also proven with his music that rap is not only an art but a lifestyle. Ycee has dropped fire jams like “Jagaban”, “Condo”, “Panda”, “Juice”, and many more. Also, his last album “The First Wave” was the definition of a new school rap and Ycee promises more fire in his next album, “Ycee Vs Zaheer”.
Dremo broke through to the big stage a few years back, but his rise ever since has been amazing. The DMW rapper maintains a renewed energy on every track as if he’s trying to best his own records. “Bigger meat”, “Fela”, “Who”, “Fan of My Fans”, “Kpa”, “Unbeliever” are some of his hit tracks. He has one album to his name and promises to deliver another fire album in his “Codename Dremo Vol 2” album coming out later this year.
Ladipoe featured on our spotlight a few weeks backs and the rapper is rapidly building his reputation as one of the best MC’s out. His last album T.A.P in 2018 is easily one of the best rap projects released in a while. He changed the view of rap with his album as he released a different vibe from the norm. The iconic duo is highly revered within the hip hop community and rightly so. With over 4 music projects to their names. The impact they’ve had on the rap industry has been staggering. The two artists have also proven that as well as working with OG heads in the past they can blend in well with the new generation of artists. Their last album, “Clone Wars IV” was a new wave of rap every rap lover should experience.
Mode 9 has always been a beast in the game. Some Hip-Hop heads refer to him as the forefather of Rap in Nigeria. When Mode 9 joined Question Mark entertainment it immediately helped his hardcore style of rap go mainstream. And then he dropped another mega-hit album “Pentium IX” which was an instant success. Mode 9 performed alongside some of the biggest artists like Guru of Gangstarr, and Wyclef in his prime. He has won 3 Channel O awards and 9 awards at the Hip-hop world awards. So it is no wonder he is highly regarded in the hip hop industry.
Illbliss appears just outside the top 10 on the list. In the days where he was fully active and performative, barely a year went by without him dropping big records. From “Aiye Po Gan” to “Jawonlaya” which featured Reekado banks and Mr, Eazi, the list goes on. The rapper also has over 3 albums to his name and he is one of the most consistent and mainstream rap artists of the last decade. He also one of the forerunners of the music business (his record label, Capital Music) in Nigeria.
10 Ice Prince
Ice Prince was definitely one of the Top 5 musicians in Nigeria during the period of 2011 to 2013. Several songs like “Oleku”, “Superstar”, “Aboki”, “Jambo”, “V.I.P”, “Olofofo” topped various charts when they were released. His debut song, “Oleku” is the all-time most remixed song in Nigeria. During this period, he also bagged a lot of awards like the Headies, Channel O awards, Nigerian Entertainment Awards, City People Entertainment Awards and many more.
Jesse Jagz is one of the finest Nigerian MCs. He jumps on any beat and any vibe. His style was very dynamic and unique as he is one of the first artistes in Nigeria to introduce a different approach to rap in Nigeria. He was signed to chocolate music and a part of the choc boys. The Choc boys are one of the biggest Rap groups to ever come out of Africa. Rumor had it that Jesse Jagz was the backbone. He had bangers like “Jailer”, “Nobody Test Me”, “Redemption” and many more.
8 Naeto C
When Naeto C broke out, He was untouchable. He had unique flows and a very dynamic sound. He’s one of those artistes you can identify their sound even when you are deaf. He had a lot of number 1s too. Songs like “Ten Over Ten”, “5&6”, “Kini Big Deal”, “Tony Montana” and many more, topped the charts when they were released. His “Super C” album got him a lot of endorsements from Hip-Hop heads in Africa.
Phyno is most times, popularly regarded as the forerunner of indigenous rap in the East. Since his debut, Phyno has proven nothing but consistency. He has been serving jams year in year out and also representing the culture on a very different and distinct level. Also, he has given us 2 fire albums and a joint E.P with Olamide. He has also not disappointed in dropping fire songs also. He gave us jams like “Ghost Mode”, “Parcel”, “Man of The Year”, “Fada Fada”, “Connect”, “The Bag” and many more.
6 Da Grin
Though dead, his music lives on. He had a short while in the music industry but he didn’t fail to give us bangers. Da Grin even went ahead and gave us an album before he died and another after he died. Furthermore, he’s referred to as the forerunner of indigenous rap among his peers. He made the way for artistes like Olamide, Reminisce, Phyno, Zoro and the likes to shine. In addition to his works, he gave us jams like “Pon Pon”, “Kondo”, “Idi Nla”. A legend indeed.
Falz has definitely maintained consistency since his debut till this very moment. He has proven that as a rapper in Nigeria, you can still be in the spotlight. His “Moral Instruction” album that he released this year, served as a guide for all Nigerians to wake up. His infusion of Fela to his own tyle was very admirable. Furthermore, these days, we dont have artistes that make music for a social call, most do it for the money. Falz is admirable for this aspect. Also, all his 3 albums and E.P’s made and are still making waves because of how classy it sounds and his top-notch deliveries.
Vector Tha Viper is another rapper whose sound will stand the test of time. He has given us top-quality albums. As a matter of fact, Vectors as a rapper is undefeated. He’s the only rapper that has consistently appeared on the Hennessy Artistry platform over the years. Furthermore, he was one of the first rappers in Nigeria to shoot his music video abroad. Also, he has served us great music like, “Angeli”, “Follow Me”, “Popular”, “Shiga”, “King Kong” and many more.
Reminisce since his debut, has been a phenomenal force to be reckoned with. He’s one of those artistes whose music dont age. He jumps on trendy topics and flows and that way, his music advances. Most of his fans call him the King of flows because of how often he switches his flow. He has served heat like “Kako Bi Chicken”, “Tesojue”, “Local Rappers” and many more. He has also bagged several awards from the Headies, Nigerian Entertainment Awards”.
M.I Abaga is one of the Forefathers of Rap in Nigeria. He is also a way maker as he set the way for Iceprince, Jese Jagz, Dice Ailes, Loose Kanon, and many others. Jesse Jagz has also achieved a lot during his career. He was the first rapper in Africa to win the Best Hip Hop and Best New Act at the MTV Africa Music Awards. Also, he was also the first rapper in Africa to be nominated in the Best International Act category at the BET Awards 2010. Asides this, he is currently the CEO of Chocolate City. The label that at some point, housed the best rappers in Nigeria. M.I has served us jams like “Crowd Mentality” “Action Film”, “Safe”, “Beef”, “Bad Belle”, “Lekki” and many more. M.I in his career has lived up to the Legend Status.
Olamide Baddo has proven nothing but the King of rap in this past decade. Since his debut, Olamide has dropped as consistently dropped an album every year for the past 8 years. These albums were not just albums, they were classics. They each at least had two major jams that went mainstream. Olamide and Phyno also gave us a joint album titled “2 Kings” for the culture. Also, he has not failed in entertaining his fans. Every year for the past 5 years, he has given his fans a music concert. The concert is tagged O.L.I.C (Olamide Live In Concert). He has served us gems over the years.
In his break out year, he had the biggest song “Eni Duro” in the country that Year. He has also had jams like “Bobo”, “Pepper Dem Gang”, “Awon Goons Mi”, “Wo”, “Sitting On The Throne” over the years. Olamide is not only a legend but an icon in the making.
